I really enjoyed our tour of Anthropologie, looking behind the scenes and seeing how retail design is shaped. Every store is very unique in the sense that they each use there own design firm from around the city, they are given suggestions as to how to lay out the displays but really can do whatever they want. Actually building items and fixtures for this store is something that surprised me, and having an "art room" to do all the projects. As we walked around, i was mesmerized by the way that creatively is used. From using guinea pig food, cotton balls, black beans as fillers in the bottoms of some fixtures. Using tin containers and wrapping mop strands for added detail. Making roots from twisted fabric and growing potatoes so sprouts would bloom to be used in the "root cellar" room. Tying black bows on bales of hay, using things unexpectedly, making the store as if was a human pinball game (making guests do zig zags to view the whole store). When thinking about my store, i took inspiration from Michelle when she said to "make it different" and detail is the most important feature, guests will buy something just because the attention to detail is excellent. When designing the cash register, "it is the customer's last experience, so make it good." Overall, i really enjoyed visiting this store. It opened my eyes to think more about space planning, detail, craft and most important, the experience that you get from the store no matter what it is selling.
